Chise is an ordinary schoolgirl: small, frail, and not particularly intelligent. Her greatest joy is her budding romance with her classmate and childhood friend, Shuuji. They both live in a small military town in Hokkaido, where high schoolers have few concerns other than who is dating whom and complaining about the steep climb up "Hell Hill" every day before school. One day, Shuuji and his friends make a trip to Sapporo to buy gifts for their girlfriends. A massive air raid on Sapporo that day kills thousands, including one of Shuuji's friends, and signals the beginning of a war. Fleeing from the carnage, Shuuji spots Chise, though now she has steel wings and a massive gun where her right arm should be. Against her will, she has been transformed into the ultimate cyborg weapon, capable of leveling entire cities. THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- I kind of liked this animé, and I hated it too. The ending, however strange it was, was satisfying for some reason even though the whole earth got wiped out(?), because that was what happened right? There was one thing that really sucked tough, we were never told the reason! Why the heck did "they" have to make Chise the ultimate weapon, we were never told the reason why they just had to make her do all this, was the reason that the one who chose who to use was a pedo? And Shuji said that everyone already knew why the earthquakes were increasing, but we were never told, was it because the other side of the world already was destroyed? And what was the reason for the war? There were so much things in this animé that made me angry, but still, that strange ending redeemed the animé. Hope the OVA will explain the ending somewhat, was Shuji hallucinating? Why was everything white? Where was he, inside his own mind? How was he saved? I'm gonna shut up now, since I'm just talking crap anyway.

One day, while Shuji is shopping in Sapporo, unknown bombers attack the city in broad daylight. He and his friends run for cover, but notice a fast and small flying object shooting down the enemy bombers. Separated from his friends, Shuji wanders through the wreckage—only to stumble upon Chise; here she has metal wings and weapons—apparently grafted onto her body. She tells him she has become the ultimate weapon, without her knowledge or consent, and that she is seen by the Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) as the last hope for defending Japan.
